A Mother’s Advice on Staying Healthy

2 February 2010 4 Comments

I was sick over the holidays, suffering from a pretty typical flu complete with cough, sinus issues, green phlegm, the whole nine yards. I mentioned this to my mom in passing and received the following advice:

************************************************************
Clean your nose with water every night.

Let the water go through to your throat from the nose. **

In the beginning it hurts but it gets better.

You will not get cold often.

Eat oranges a lot. Respiratory diseases could make it worse.

Your sm sister (meaning my aunt) always gets cold with cough.

For the cough find out home remedy and use it.

Medication will harm you when your condition is worsened.

Always think you can do for your health when you are healthy.

When you get sick it is always too late or takes too long to be cured.

Even though you are busy your healthy should not be overlooked.

When you are sick, everything will be stopped.

This trip with Walters is the best thing. But take care of you.

Take lots of natural vitamin C.

Love,
mom

Couldn’t resist and had to share, she’s so cute! My favorite line? “Take care of you.” Love you mom! And the advice is pretty good, my mom is usually right.

** Neti Pot? Anyone try this out? I’m a bit intrigued. But I’m not sure if I can incorporate this into my nightly ritual. Apparently Oprah is a fan? Although come to think of it, I’ve read quite a few books off of her Book Club list that I didn’t like. Not to say I wouldn’t give this a try but I’m just sayin’…

neti pot

Regarding the “trip with Walters,” Basil and I joined the Au’s (with Ty and Karen) up at Old Greenwood in Tahoe this past weekend. The previous week was a whirlwind and just a bit stressful so it was nice to get away for a bit to enjoy the snow and soak up the mountains. Also introduced the gang to our new favorite game obsession (thanks to cousin Dan): Monopoly Deal! The best part is the whole family can play although Basil and I did enjoy being the ultimate winners in the not-so-kid-friendly game of poker this weekend. Sorry guys for taking advantage of your hospitality and then taking all of your money! When’s the next trip to Old Greenwood?

Your mom is so cute! So much care in broken English, I love it!!!

Brian’s sister has that nasal pot thing. I think she got it for $1.99. I believe her mentality was also to have a holistic way of staying well… but I’ve never seen her use it. Not that she’d call me over to witness it or anything, but I’ve seen it sitting in the pantry for awhile. I’d be apprehensive.

since i have been doing the nasal lavage, i have not gotten a head cold or even a serious regular cold/flu!! i’m a believer!

Ooh, what a good memory! I have tried putting water up my nose, just never with the neti pot. Have you tried the NETI POT?? And I like to say it like that, all caps. Nasal lavage, is that what it’s called? Yummy.

I have a friend who has some nasal issues (not quite sure what) and he does the Neti Pot and swears by it. It’s a funny concept but who knows. Have fun with your nose! : )
