About

My name is SueAnn Shen, unofficially. I have yet to change my last name though I married the lub-of-my-life, Basil, back in September of 2008. I work as a Senior Project Manager for Oracle in the Digital Media Technology group – which means I get to help implement and maintain cool digital media delivery platforms. Basil, the funniest guy I know, is a very talented photographer and some of his work will probably sneak it’s way onto this website. He also works as a Fleet Management Account Executive with Enterprise.
After graduating from the University of Washington in 1996, I moved to New York and landed my first real-world job with News America FSI where I was tasked with things like making sure coupons for chili didn’t face coupons for dog food. A year to the day that I was hired, I quit and read books in Central Park while waiting for my head hunter to call me back with my next big break. This came as a job as a Regional Coordinator with the Stock Market Photo Agency, now known as Corbis. I worked my way up to Account Executive and was happily ambitious for quite some time. I knew the gig was up when I preferred to dial fax numbers and listen to the whir of the machine instead of my clients. This was a sign to go back to school.
During the 2 blissful years of playing with media in New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, I worked at Atlantic Records and gained weight thanks to a nightly ritual of eating Chef Boyardee Mini Ravioli’s while watching old episodes of Friends. I graduated, moved to Hawaii for a brief time and then ended up at a non-profit in California as a Design Director where I built a few web sites and designed interfaces for educational DVDs.
Thanks to my travels, my friends and family are sprinkled all over the world though I secretly wish I can pick them all up and place them in my backyard.
This website was created on a whim for no singular purpose, but I find it strangely satisfying to share bits of my life with old friends and new, and especially appreciate the outlet to throw updates out to my lovely parents who live all the way over in the Sichuan Province of China. It’s also a bit of a sandbox to test out some interesting web technologies and keep track of the things that capture my attention.
I’m not sure what else to share except that what matters most to me is my faith in God and the fact that He has redeemed my life and soul. This effects every aspect of my life and for this I’m grateful.
